MICCAI Football Game 2006

MICCAI Football Game 2006

Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
..... okay, not quite :-)

The match was played Monday evening with plenty of players, fortunately no rain and no ghouls, a new ball, a choice of three sizes of goals, a very nice field of grass .... but a bit less light than you would normally expect in a prestigious, international game!

The shadows are not just a flash effect - it really was quite dark (camera provided by Philip Edwards from Imperial College).

The ball is probably somewhere close to the US goal (rumours has it that there was a goal somewhere in that end).

The final whistle! The game ended with a penalty where the US player kicked the ball far away into the darkness.

Everything ended with no injuries, no broken royal windows, and a 5-2 Europe victory over the US+Guests team.

Original Invitation

Last year the US (with some international help) won the MICCAI Soccer game in Palm Springs. This year, the Europeans will attempt to take back the honour in the traditional MICCAI Football game. The change of name does not indicate a change of game. We will not wear silly outfits and run around with an elongated ball. We are simply in the part of the world where football is called football.

As tradition dictates, it will depend on the participants whether the teams will be US, Europe, Asia, or Mixed. Since the reigning champions are US, we will probably play US vs World or US+Guests vs Europe.

The game is mainly a social event so everybody are most welcome to participate. Either as players or as spectators.

Venue

The game will be played on the football ground of the 400 years old Rosenborg Castle. Possibly the level of play will not be majestic, but at least the surroundings will be royal.

The address is "Gothersgade 113" (or rather that is the address of the house right across the street from the gates where we will enter the castle training ground).

On the top map, the football field is at the white dot. On the bottom map, the football ground is at the top red dot and the Tivoli koncert hall is at the bottom red dot.

Getting There

We expect that everyboty would like to stop by their hotels after the conference and change before the game. Therefore you will have to find the location on your own. Use the maps and address above - and look for a gate guarded by a soldier in semi-galla uniform. The football field is plainly visible from the street. Please be there at 19.20 (7.20 pm) sharp since the guards are quite restrictive about access to the castle grounds.

If someone would prefer to go directly from the Tivoli koncert hall, we will be happy to arrange for transportation at 19.00.

Outfits

Those playing should bring clothes for non-summer conditions. The temperatur will likely be around or just below 10 degrees Celcius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). The field is grass, so any type of shoes will be fine.

MICCAI will provide t-shirts in suitable colours for the two teams.
